i MEI TEA

Our Story

A love letterto the hills.

A Khasi tea worker

i MEI TEA began the way most beautiful things do — quietly, around a kitchen table in Shillong. Our founder grew up watching her grandmother prepare tea every morning: a slow, deliberate ritual that asked the house to pause.

In Khasi, i mei means "my mother". It is a word soft with reverence — for the women who pluck, who cook, who hold a household together. We named our atelier after them.

Today we work hand in hand with small, women-led cooperatives across the Khasi, Jaintia and Garo hills, and with growers we trust around the world. Every tin is hand-finished in our Shillong studio.

Meghalaya hills
"We do not make tea quickly.
The hills will not allow it."

— A grower in Sohra

Single-origin

Every tea is traceable to one estate, one harvest, one season.

Matrilineal craft

We partner with women-led cooperatives — the keepers of the leaf.

Small batches

We pluck and pack what the season gives. When it's gone, it's gone.
